The Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a virus that causes respiratory illness and various other symptoms. Information on this virus and the new variants are subject to change as we continue to learn more. As always, we continue to follow all proper health and safety precautions to ensure the well-being of our residents and staff.
For more information, please visit the LDH interactive webpage https://ldh.la.gov/Coronavirus/ and CDC COVID Data Tracker site, https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#datatracker-home . We will continue to take strong measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 within our facility and encourage residents and staff to receive their COVID-19 Immunizations. Review the LDH Face Sheet about the COVID-19 Vaccination from the attachments at the top of this page.
Educating yourself and your family will greatly reduce panic and anxiety while aiding to prevent the spread of infection. The clinical presentation of COVID-19 includes a range of symptoms, from light coughing to severe pneumonia resulting in death. Fever, coughing, and shortness of breath are most common. Symptoms usually appear from two days to two weeks after exposure. Although there is uncertainty on the issue of “asymptomatic transmission” (if an infected person can spread the virus before they show symptoms, such as coughing, etc.), it is unlikely to contribute much to the spread of the virus. The highest risk of virus spread would be from a person who already has symptoms like fever and cough.
We are closely following the recommendations by federal and state agencies as well as the infection prevention procedures used during flu season: hand washing, using alcohol-based hand sanitizers, covering coughs and disinfecting the environment.
Our top priority is resident and employee safety. The goal is to limit the possibility of exposure to the virus at our facility and if it is identified, to minimize the spread to anyone else.
